Embracing the Beauty

As we enter the final month of the year, December invites us to reflect on our accomplishments and celebrate the creativity that has blossomed in our classrooms. Amidst the flurry of winter festivities, holiday designs and semester wrap-ups, let us take a moment to appreciate the dedication we bring to nurturing the next generation of floral designers. This season is filled with opportunities to inspire students through festive arrangements, meaningful lessons and innovative projects that capture the magic of the holidays. May this month remind us of the joy found in teaching and the beauty we create every day — both in our floral designs and in the lives of our students.

Floral certification testing is coming up in 2026! Students can test for their Level 1 and Level 2 certifications at one of TSFA’s testing events:

1/28/26 — East View High School in Georgetown, TX
2/21/26 — V.R. Eaton High School in Haslet, TX
3/4/26 — Tyler Rose Garden in Tyler, TX
3/26/26 — Region 17 Education Service Center in Lubbock, TX
4/9/26 — Tony Burger Activity Center in Austin, TX
4/16/26 — Klein ISD Multipurpose Center in Klein, TX
4/29/26 — City of Seguin Coliseum in Seguin, TX

Fundamental Elements and Principles

of Design Class — January 9-11

Taught by expert faculty with years of experience in the floral industry, these courses will help provide you with the skills needed to increase your knowledge, hone your skills and advance your career. Members of the Texas State Florists' Association (TSFA) enjoy significant savings on these classes and other offerings from the TSFA School of Floral Design. Submit your registration by Dec. 26, 2025.

Basic Floral Design and Care and Handling.
- Jan. 9 — 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Sympathy Design.
- Jan. 10 — 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Floral Management.
- Jan. 10 — 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Wedding Design.
- Jan. 11 — 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Element of the Month — Pattern

Pattern is the repeated comnination of line, form, color, texture size and/or materials in the design. Any element used more than once may create a pattern. This helps the eye travel through the design and ties materials together.

Flower of the Month Club

December's Flower of the Month Club design is a horizontal floral design. This design displays a monochromatic color harmony. The recipe for this design is as follows:

3 — Birch branches.
2 — Green button poms.
3 — White roses.
3 — Honey bracelet.
2 — Pittosporum.
1 — 4”x4”x4” cube vase.
⅓ — Brick of wet floral foam.
18” Aspidistra leaf ribbon.

*Honey bracelet and pittosporum could easily be substituted with Christmas greens.
